Market Summary

Slaughter cows and bulls $4-5 higher. Feeder cattle fully steady to higher.  With all the volatility in the cattle futures caused by avian influenza, interest rate concerns, and conflicts around the world it’s easy to overlook a couple things. About 3 weeks ago fat cattle reached an all time record in the United States and have eased off a bit since. This week in Canada fat steers averaged $256.49, an all time record. Also, despite what’s going on in Chicago, feeder cattle keep advancing, and slaughter cows reach new highs every week. Some slaughter cows brought very close to $4000 on Thursday. These are historic times in our business with lots of good things to come. We just need a little rain, but there’s nothing wrong with this market. Have a good week. Ian
